the top vote-getters. A day earlier, Andrew Schiff’s Henry
Chadwick was named one of three
finalists for the 2009 Seymour Medal, awarded for the best book of

Negro Leagues, a semiannual
peer-reviewed journal. Under the guidance of Leslie Heaphy and an

including the Negro major and minor leagues, teams, and players;
pre–Negro League organization and play; barnstorming;
